Hello everyone! My name is Rachael Ward and I'm a senior going into my last semester of undergraduate college. I look forward to getting to know everyone and having fun with this class.
Where I'm from: I'm originally from North Wilmington Delaware. As of age 7, however, I moved to London England were I lived for three years. It was a very interesting experiance getting to see a lot of Europe but sadly, when my family moved back, adjusting was a bit difficult. Ever since, my I've been living in Kennett Square Pennsylvania, or the mushroom capital of the world as they called it. XP
My interests: Since I was little I've always loved creating different stories, an interest that has only grown with time. I enjoy reading books, watching movies and even playing video games as long as they have a well written story and great characters. I'm also a big animation buff though I suck at drawing (I blame Disney), which has developed into an appreciation for animation of all kinds, particularly created for children in this country. I believe that animation has the potential to be entertaining to more than just kids since it has the capacity to tell stories in a way that live action films can only dream about. I'm hoping that once I graduate from college, to write about how to teach media to future generations or get a job writing movie scripts.
While I admit that I'm much more into hand drawn art than photography, I do respect the power that photography has in terms of bringing us back to past events and tell you about the time period it was taken. Honestly, I'm more interested in the subject matter than the person that took them (Which is bad, I know. I need to get better at that). I would have to say one of my favorite photographers that comes to mind is William Thompson, who was the first man to take underwater pictures. Pioneering a ton of fantastic images of the undersea world.
If I had to pick a favorite photograph, this would be my most recent pick. From what I have seen of Ernst Haas' photographs, he has a many impressive ones in the way they show common things in a new way. Most of them include pictures of horses, my favorite animal. This picture really impressed me that it captured both the size and strength of the animal by lift an man off his feet. I have seen horses rear on their hind legs before but never like this. It really impressed me and I enjoyed looking at it and other photographs taken by Haas.
